Who does this?

Who bothers re-designing their blog every year and spent hours and hours tweaking the templates and painfully correct every colors in the stylesheet? Who archives their whole blog in-tact with the old design and spent waay too many hours buiding a new one from scratch using a new db?!? Why do I do this?

I don’t know either, every time I finish making the new version of my blog I keep thinking that the last version was better. But for some irrational reason I feel like it’s the right thing to do. Change is important, but does superficial change count? Perhaps it’s all about vanity and self-representation. Style is not everything, I know, but I obsess over color schemes and little aesthetics anyway. Just like how I pretend to hate fashion but wish I can afford to buy everything Prada.

I’m currently in the midst of developing a blog for this multinational corporation I essentially work for (ah!! so much for being anti corporate!), and I gripe about how I hate doing web stuff, but then I come home and go right back to doing the same exact thing I do at work.

todd: “You’re just too good at web stuff”
me: “I’m starting to realize that maybe I’ll never escape it”
todd: “We can’t escape it. We are what we are.”
me: “… um… that’s deep, todd”

This is somewhat frightening. I turn 28 next month and some times I catch myself thinking that maybe I’ll be doing this web programming stuff for the rest of my life just because I can.

todd: “whatever, you do what you have to do so you can do the stuff you love”

I don’t know what it is I love to do any more — maybe just working on a nice computer is what I really love — forget all that I’ve ever said about the importance of art, of good design, of social change and revolution, of feminism, of believing in what you want, of traveling and being cultured, of caring about the environment, politics, and blah blah blah — I’m just an Internet junkie at the end of it all.

Anyways, here’s my new redesign. miserychick dot net will turn six years old in two months and this is the sixth version. I guess it’s like animal changing out of their old skin. More soon.

Here’s the old stuff.

  1. Hi Ann, nice new layout but old one was fine but coulda got stale eventually.

Now if you are really into this web stuff perhaps there’s dough to be made in Thailand since you speak English and Thai. What about you in the US using your English skill to drum up business, and Thai speaking programmers doing the work in old Siam and under cutting the Indians at their own game?
