From airport security to electronic artist:

My boyfriend is getting on board a flight to Frankfurt in order to go to Toronto to prepare for his show that opens next week. In his carry-on luggage are 3 laptop computers, two of which are modified, taken out of the original cases and refitted into a wooden box, and 2 customized electronic gadgets that basically could look like handheld electronic bombs to those who don’t know any better (palm-size electronic boards encase in wood and silicon, respectively). There are also batteries, wires, and all kinds of miscellaneous cables and connectors that normal people don’t usually pack along with their clothes.

So of course, after going through the scanner, the nervous security people took him aside and asked that everything be shown and demonstrated. After mentioning the magic B phrase — “I work for Benetton” — which seemed to work in calming people down a bit, Mark proceeded to impress them by showing how his homemade-bomb looking device can actually receive photos from a cellphone and display it instantaneously. “Wow! That’s Cool! And you made this??” All smiles. As Mark repacks his carry-on and prepares to leave, one of the lady guard said her farewell:

“Good luck! Keep using your genious for good things and NOT THE OTHER STUFF!”

priceless.
