It’s summer!

Although the weather has been increasingly nice over the past weeks, today is the first day I actually feel the summer. The humid air that makes you sweat, the piercing sun that makes you brown, the heat! Ohhh the heat I’ve been waiting for since the beginning of winter! Wow, now that you’re here I wish you’d be just a tadbit cooler. But I’ll take a warm sunny day over a rainy cloudy day any time.

I watched part of the Italy vs. Ghana game last night, and now the World Cup fever has caught me by surprised. Now I anticipate watching the next game with excitement. Who am I cheering for? Any underdog team (like Togo – where the heck is Togo?), and any team from Asia (which is, what, S. Korea, Japan and Iran out of the whole freakin continent?) And maybe I’ll cheer for the USA because I’m technically American, but I don’t know if cheering for the USA would help them any.

Otherwise, things have been pretty normal lately. I haven’t had anything exciting to report, just enjoying the weather, the sun, the food, the relaxation that is small town Italia before I have to leave in less than four months. I’m still trying to overdose on these yummy cherries before the season is over, making sure I try all the gelato flavors, and drink all the wine while I can. I’m also trying to make note of things to buy from Europe that I wouldn’t find anywhere else, like homemade French lavendar soap, an espresso maker, designer sunglasses, Venezian glassware, the list goes on and on… but most of them I won’t be able to afford — ah the unbearable conflict of being cultured and broke.

  1. Togo is a West African country, next to Benin. Very cool art.
