El Vez for Prez

El Vez for Prez 08Here’s one for absurdity:  a Mexican Elvis impersonator runs for the office of the President of the United States and campaigns in Canada.

From wikipedia:

El Vez is the stage name of Robert Lopez, a Mexican-American rock and roll artist, who performs and records original material and covers classic rock songs. Mixing the styles of Elvis Presley and many other American rock artists with his own Latin-American heritage and music, he is known for expressing revolutionary views through his the satire and humor in his songs.

He’s really funny.

We saw his live performance, El Vez for Prez 08, at the Horseshoe Tavern last Saturday night, and it is hands-down one of the more intelligent and dynamic show we’ve seen in a long time.  He weaves in and out of different classic American rock songs changing the lyrics to fit his political themes, dances constantly and manages to come out in 10 different costumes without any long break in between.  He gets the crowd going from the beginning to end, and everyone was just loving it.

Purely entertaining and smart, it made me wonder why one would spend money to see some random guys droning on their guitars when you can watch this.  Highly recommended if you can catch the show in your city.  See the tour dates.
