Buried in the attic

Years of not updating my old wordpress installs finally caught up with me when one of them was compromised by some sort of phishing hack… so I just had to spend a nice saturday afternoon cleaning up my web server, deleting files and saving whatever I could find.

Like going through boxes of unread journals in the attic (if that’s, in fact, where you keep your old journals)… scanning through my old blog posts and uploaded folders from yesteryear revealed some gems from the past:

An old old picture, the colors look almost like a painting:
Ann & Jane

Another old picture, but this was taken.. maybe 15(?) years later by a camera phone:
Ann & Jane in New York

I’m sure my parents probably wish we stayed the same age as we were in the first picture.

Here’s a mildly embarrassing photo from a New Year’s Eve party in 2001 (when it was Dec 12, 2000).  Girl friends and I went to NYC (I was living in Chicago at the time) and met up with my sister (second from left in the back) for the countdown in a night club.  That’s me in the left, with some strange eyeshadow (perhaps it’s why I don’t wear much make up anymore – apparently had no skills) and the girl in front, she’s married to my ex… which is a little bit weird.  The other two in the back, one is making a baby and the other one is back in school.  The boy in the picture – can’t remember him for the life of me.

I totally forgot about this trip to Boston with my friend Gary.  I can’t remember how the trip came about, but we took a train from New York City to Boston for a weekend and walked around town.  This must have been summer of 2003.  We lost touch after that (unless you count some missed-IM messages), but then a few months before my wedding, five years later, we saw each other online and found out that we were getting married on the same day.  Weird.

Ann in Boston

This was from my 2nd year at ITP, I was always on my laptop and probably had that facial expression all the time (gosh I miss that pink hair):
Ann & Urico at ITP

This was also from some time at ITP, I’m the Daria icon (she’s the actual ‘misery chick’)

After graduation from ITP, we went to Japan for the NIME conference in Hamamatsu and sat on this giant bench.

ITP 04 on a bench

From the left, Taku is now living in the Netherlands (with Vivian from the IM image above) and performs all over the world, Mike is one of the directors at Facebook, Eric is somewhat of a Flash star and works for the Exploratorium in SF, Hans leads the ubergeeky PD cult (he’s world famous amongst them) and teaches 2 classes at ITP.  And then last two on the bench got married.

And the last one, for now…

Dan & Mark and French dictionary

This was taken in Nice during an art opening of some sort that we were invited to.  It was the first time on our trip that we had try to socialize with other people (the first couple days we were busy settling in and getting the gallery set up).  Daniel and Mark struck a conversation with this French girl, who spoke a little English.  Here, they’re both looking through their travel dictionaries.  The girl was probably laughing inside, but she was really polite and actually waited for them to form a coherent sentence.  I retreated behind the camera because it was much more fun.

This is barely scratching the surface of what I dug up during my server purge.  I’ll post more as I get around to organize them.
